Is it okay for my dog to drink pond water?
There is a man-made small pond at my school. My dog stepped into it and drank some of the water. I noticed there was what appeared to be algae floating on the water. Do you think it's safe for him to drink that water? He seems okay, I was just wondering if there were any possible reactions?
the algae was green-like moss. there are no fish in the water. it's just a very small pond. he only drank a little bit of water, and this was the only time.
the pond is part of an installation art project at my school. the water comes from rainwater.

He'll probably be fine, but in the future, try to keep him from drinking pond water (much easier said than done). Remember that dogs' digestive systems and immune systems are quite a bit tougher than humans' systems. Your dog can drink and eat some *disgusting* things and be ok, even though if you were to eat or drink the same things you would probably get really sick. If your dog is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, you shouldn't worry too much. Keep an eye on him and see if he shows any signs of digestive trouble. My dog got sick once from drinking creek water; the vet gave him some antibiotics and he was fine in a couple of days. He's also eaten cat poo and been fine.
