What is allusion? Also, can people please help me with examples of it?
I am taking an A.P. course next year in school, so for that I need to do a summer assignment. For my summer assignment I need to define what allusion is, then find an example of allusion for 14 different biblical events. The events are:
-The Fall
-The Flood
-The Creation
-The Mark of Cain
-Lot and his Wife (choices)
-Job
-The Nativity
-Lazarus
-The Crucifixion
-The Denial
-Thirty Pieces of Silver
-David and Goliath
-Golgotha
-The Whore of Babylon
If anyone could give me examples of allusion for any of these I would appreciate it sooooo much! I am not looking for the answers to my assignment, but just good examples of what an allusion might be for one or all of those above topics. Oh, if you could, can you please include a definition of allusion as well. I am 99.9% sure that I know the proper definition for it, but I would like to double-check. Thanks soooooo much!

An allusion is a casual reference to something. A biblical allusion is to use an image or reference from the bible in everyday language that has nothing to do with the original use of the image or reference.
For instance, to say a supposedly powerful person has "feet of clay" is to refer to the vision of a mighty statue in the second chapter of Daniel that nevertheless collapsed because its feet were made partly of clay. Common language is full of biblical allusions, from someone having the "patience of Job" or the "wisdom of Solomon" to the desire for "forbidden fruit" to weather like that of "Noah's flood."
