Thin set or mastic... which is best for tile in a shower?

I have been told by a lowe's rep that mastic is best to use in a shower, but have read in a pro book that thin set with a latex additive is best...However, every thinset I have looked at says not to use in a shower? In addition, I am using 4x4 tile; every thinset says to use on 8x8 tile or larger...?? I am setting the tile over hardibacker on the walls and the shower pan is poured concrete, if that helps anyone give me the best answer. Thanks folks.

THINSET!! The person at Lowes is full of it.. Mastic is a water soluable product that will break down in a wet place like a shower..I ve never seen the size to use thinset on. If there was I d have a 100,000 s/f falling off the walls lol The only thing I know of there is a trowel size differance from going to a 4x4 or an 8x8 .. 1x4 square notched trowel for your 4x4 and I use a 1x4 by 3/8 square notched trowel for 6x6 hardbodied and larger.. Larger trowel when I get into special large trowel .. Use a 2x2 or 3x3 on the shower floor to take the pitch and be more slip resistant. ( get the proper glaze for that floor too.. GL Any ??? e mail me
