What's the best paint to buy?
We have just bought our first house and now we have seen it without furniture, we realised we need to paint. We bought some homebase matt tester paints but when we tested them on an area you can see the paint brush strokes and it seems patchy, I know we will have to do a couple of coats and possibly an undercoat but whats the best paint to get for the best results? The ceilings are fine and won't need doing, it's just the walls and possibly the skirting boards. Will a couple of coats hide the brush strokes?
We also have a few cracks that I have found on the walls and around the skirting boards and windows, can we get paint to cover cracks on walls before painting the colour?!
Any advise would be helpful!
Fill the cracks first with an all-purpose filler. You don't really need an expensive emulsion - it won't make that much difference to the finish. The Homebase emulsion is fine - but you will need two coats of this or any other brand. After the second coat you won't be able to see any brush marks.
For the skirting boards, you will need paint. Gloss, eggshell, whatever finish you prefer - but do not buy cheap paint! The best paint is Dulux Non-Drip One-Coat. It is the only one I would use.
